Green Party of Nigeria (GPN) candidate in to the Bauchi state House of Assembly Mr Maryam Alexander said involvoment of women in legislation would promote diversity and improve team outcomes for citizens in the state.
Alexander who is contesting for Dass Constituency in the state Assembly 2019 general elections made the assertion at the flagging off her campaign in Bazali Dass on Saturday
She said voting more women in to legislation would promote diversity and also improve team outcomes of democratic dividend in the state.
“Because women are better able to build bridges, there’s really not that much showing clear differences between women and men, therefore increasing the number of women will have great improvements in provision of dividends of democracy.
“I believe that democracy is enhanced through the diversity of people participating in it. More women in legislation,on corporate boards to greater diversity of views and therefore better public policy outcomes.
“I also believe in the right of every woman to enjoy equal rights and privileges before the law. This is because equality is a fundamental human right that should be enjoyed by all,”she said
According to Alexander, i am committed to good governance and promoting the responsible, transparent and accountable use of the resources of my state through effective representation for the benefit of all our people.
She pledged, to work on a bill that focuses on health, education, water and social welfare, if elected, adding that she look at women and girls enjoy equal access to resources, opportunities or political power in the state.
“If poverty is to become history, then discrimination and gender inequality have to be tackled. Women are disproportionately affected by poverty and violence, and they make up most of the poor and the illiterate people in our society.
Mrs Alexander also cautions people of her constituency against religion and tribal politics.
“Politics has nothing to do with religion or tribe, so we have to be careful with people that preacher’s religion or tribalism in politics, Nigeria belong to all religion and tribes so don’t allow somebody to misled you with religious politics,” the candidate said.
She appealed to electorates to pray for peaceful conduct of the general elections in the country.
Also speaking, Chieftain of GPN Allahji Bello Gayya called on people of Dass Constituency to votes for Mrs Alexander who is capable and competent to give the constituency a effective representation in the state.
“We at the party level, have confidence in her doggedness and honesty ,she will made an effective legislation for Dass people.” he said.
