Nigeria kicked off its 2021 Africa cup of Nations campaign by defeating Benin at Goodswill Akapabio Stadium in Uyo.
Benin took the lead when Stephane Sessegnon scored three minutes into the match.
Effort by the Nigerian team to level the score paid off at the final minutes of the first half. Victor Osihmen, who plays for Lille, in the French league, scored from penalty to give the team a reassuring second half.
Bordeaux’s Samuel Kalu brought the winning goal for the Super Eagles just past the hour mark as he dribbled into the area to score from close range.
Nigeria sits with 3 points on top of the table of Group L. While Lesotho who drew their encounter with Sierra Leone comes behind the Super Eagles with 1 point, leaving Benin at the bottom.
