It was an unfortunate incident as loaded tanker fell and caused inferno in Tumfure along the Gombe-Bauchi Expressway killing a motorcyclist.
This was made known by an official of the Red Cross Society in Gombe, Mr Abass Mohammed on Wednesday noting that the tanker was heading to Bauchi
Abbas cited that , “Over an hour ago, I was informed of the accident. As the tanker, which was laden with diesel, was on its way out of the depot, there was a container carrier on it way. The tanker driver made an attempt to overtake the container carrier but he was not aware that there was a stationary truck ahead.
He added that collision of the tanker with the truck caused the death of a motorcyclist and the razing of five shops.”
According to an eyewitness who was present at the scene revealed that he narrowly escaped from the scene of the accident, said , the tanker driver revved up the engine after coming out of the depot while the driver attempted to change course, unfortunately, he hit the truck and the impact caused the diesel to spill. Someone tried to save the motorcyclist, who was trapped in the ensuing inferno, but could not due to the intensity of the fire.”
In the same vein, another incident caused gridlock as motorists and commuters plying the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Wednesday spent several hours on the Long Bridge at the Ogun State end of the road as a result of a diesel-laden tanker, which fell and spilled its content.
