David Lyon has emerged the flag bearer of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the forthcoming governorship election in Bayelsa State.

The oil magnate and businessman polled 42,138 votes to defeat five aspirants.

He was followed by Mrs. Desiye Nsirim with 1,533 votes, while Ebitimi Amgbare was third with 633 votes.

Former Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural Development, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri came fourth with 571 votes while Prof. Ongoebi Etebu and Preye Aganaba got 564 and 354 votes respectively.

Senator Emmanuel Ocheja, the Collation office, who was standing in for the Returning Officer, Governor Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe State announced the results.

The Nations reports that Lokpobiri rejected the result, insisting he and his team never participated in any primaries.

Lokpobiri queried the declaration of the results by Ocheja other than the Returning officer, Gaidam, who chaired the committee.

He hoped the national leadership would look into the development and ensure a credible process.
