Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu has denied allegation that he was responsible for the attack on Governor Godwin Obaseki, Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu and other dignitaries on Saturday at the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Adams Oshiomhole’s house in Iyamho.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Musa Ebomhiana stated this on Saturday on behalf of his boss, The Punch reports.

The media aide said Shaibu was on the entourage of Governor Obaseki when they were attacked and he could not have led the attack on the dignitaries.

“The Deputy Governor could not have caused the unfortunate incident that happened this evening.  The Governor, his deputy, Oba of Lagos and their entourage were at the gate of the National Chairman of our great party, comrade Adams Oshiomhole to pay him the usual homage since they were in his domain.

“Surprisingly, the large crowd that gathered at the gate brutally attacked the convoy, destroying three cars in the process. The convoy had to quickly turn and came back to the varsity campus.

“So, how did the DG cause it, could he have arranged his own attack? In fact, they were there on the invitation of the Comrade himself,” he said

Recall that the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Adams Oshiomhole blamed Shaibu for the attack.

Oshimhole said he was responsible for the attack because the thugs invaded the university community, Iyamho on his order to intimidate his political opponents.

Governor Obaseki, Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu and Chancellor of Edo State University, Aderemi Makanjuola were attacked at Oshiomhole’s residence after attending convocation at the university.
