The federal Government has declared its intention to replace all old versions of Yellow card with an electronic version which will take effect from Monday, July 1.
The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Health, Mr. Abdulaziz Mashi Abdullahi, disclose this on Friday at Abuja.He said the introduction of the new e-Yellow card also know as International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (ICVP), will solve the issue of fake Yellow Cards.
Among the features of the new card is the bar code which makes it easy to identify anywhere across the globe.
Abdullahi noted that as part of measures to meet up to the requirement of the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) in ensuring all international travelers entering the country are vaccinated, measures have been put in place to prevent and control yellow fever. He said it involves mandatory requirement of evidence of vaccination against the disease by travelers.
He further added that from July 1 the use of the new card would be active.The permanent secretary called on the traveling public to cooperate with the ministry through Port Health Services Division to prevent and control cross-border transmission of yellow fever by complying with the new changes.
