Imo bomb blast: Police preliminary report out

As a result of the bomb blast that was reported on Thursday in Imo state,

The Police authority in Imo has released a preliminary report on the cause of the blast which occurred in a scrap dump in Eziorsu community, Oguta local government area.

In confirming the report, the Police Public Relation Officer, (PPRO) in Imo, Orlando Ikeokwu, said the explosion resulted in the death of 3 persons. He gave the names of the victims, as Elvis Ukado; Kasiemobi Uzoma and Justice Adie.

He said that the explosion was triggered while one of the victims was beating a scrap iron in order to compress it. Unknown to him that the scrap iron was an unexploded ordinance.

The Commissioner of Police used the opportunity to warn all the public to promptly report any metal device suspected to be Unexploded Ordnance or Explosive (UXO), for possible examination, evacuation and possible destruction.”

An eyewitness from the community, who also confirmed the development said that the blast affected people around the scene due to the violent wave and effect of the sound.
