Owing to the level of insecurity ravaging the country , the Economy Financial Crime Commission , (EFCC’s ) Ibadan Zonal Head, Friday Ebelo, , has cited that corruption is the roots of the current insecurity in the country and for peace and security to reign again , Nigeria need an urgent means to curb against the menace.
Ebelo made this assertion during a radio program “Eagle Alert” at Diamond 101.1 FM radio programme, Ibadan.
He said that the deprivations occasioned by high-level corruption had created fertile grounds for all forms of criminality which in turn threaten the country’s peace and security. Noting that “You can’t separate the growing insecurity from corruption. The surest path to peace in our country is to take care of the menace of corruption.
According to him, if we succeed in stemming corruption, we will birth a working system in which the problem of infrastructural deficit will be addressed. Ignorance will be kept at bay, and there will be more jobs for the people. All that will effectively address the problem of insecurity,” he added.
Ebelo said that the commission cannot win the anti-corruption battle alone despite the powers granted to EFCC by the law, noting that it is a collective effort to make the country great.
