Jim Ovia pulls out of World Economic Forum in South Africa

Jim Ovia

Nigerian businessman and founder of Zenith Bank, Jim Ovia has announced his withdrawal from the ongoing World Economic Forum holding in South Africa.

His withdrawal is coming barely 24 hours after Nigerians dragged him and former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili for attending the forum despite the killings and looting of Nigerians businesses in the recent xenophobic attacks in South Africa.

In a statement released Thursday September 5, Ovia said his decision to withdraw from the forum was based on issues surrounding the lives and well-being of Nigerian citizens living in South Africa.

“Hypersensitivity of the issues surrounding the lives and well-being of Nigerian citizens living in South Africa and to contribute his voice against the poor state of security regarding foreign nationals living in Africa,” the statement read in part.
