The Nasarawa State Chairman of Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, Mr. Aminu Maifata has debunk the rumors that local councils had received direct funding from the Federation Account.
The Lafia local government chairman made this known during interview with journalist in the state on Tuesday. He said that it is untrue that the 13 LGA in the state had already received its June allocation from the federation account.
He added that despite directive from the Nigerian Financial Unit to see that changes are effected from June, Local government are still toreceive their June allocation.
The ALGON chairman stated that for now disbursement of allocation will still be done through the former channel it has been carried out in the past.
“Because the Federal Allocation Account meeting has not yet met to distribute allocation to the various levels of government in the country,”
Maifata, however, commended the new financial regime, stressing that it would bring about prudence, accountability and transparency in handling the finances of LGAs.
“We will henceforth be accountable for whatever comes in and out of the coffers of our respective LGAs, everyone will be on his toes.
