The Nigerian Female Football Team, Super Falcons won the 2019 WAFU Women’s Cup on Saturday in Abidjan. They defeated hosts Cote d’Ivoire 5-4 on penalty kicks.
The game ended in a 1-1 draw at the Stade Robert Champroux de Macory The Ivorians scored the first of the march at the 42nd minute with Ange Koko Nguessan’s free-kick.
Nigeria’s Uchenna Kanu however scored the equalizer towards the end of the game.
The Ivorians, who were last year’s finalists, had defeated Mali 2-1 in the competition’s second semi-final match while the Super Falcons advanced into the final match after defeating 2018 winners Ghana via penalty kicks shoot-out on Thursday.
Nigeria’s Kanu ended the competition as the top scorer, with 10 goals in five games for the Super Falcons.Nigeria is billed to feature in the FIFA Women’s World Cup, starting in France next month holding from June 7 to July.
