Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Virgil van Dijk have made the final three-man shortlist for the 2019 FIFA’s The Best men’s award.
Van Dijk who won the UEFA’s Player of the Year last week during the Champions League draw ceremony last week would have to compete with Messi and Ronaldo again if he’s to win the award.
Luka Modric won the 2018 edition of the award, beating Ronaldo and Mohamed Salah to the prize.
Three English Premiership coaches, Pep Guardiola , Jurgen Klopp and Mauricio Pochettino are the contenders for The Best Men’s Coach award.
Guardiola made the list for guiding Manchester City to the English domestic treble last season.
Klopp got on the list via his Champions League success with Liverpool at Madrid in May.
Taking Tottenham to their first Champions League final iwas the magic for Pochettino making the list.
In The Best Goalkeeper category, Brazilian duo Ederson and Alisson were nominated along with German number one, Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
The Women’s Best Player award nominees are USA internationals Megan Rapinoe and Alex Morgan who scored six goals each at the Women’s World Cup in France.
Lucy Bronze, who won the UEFA’s Women Player of the Year award last week completes the nominations.
Goals that made the final list for the Puska Award are Messi’s chip against Real Betis, Juanfer Quintero’s free-kick for River Plate against Racing Club and Daniel Zsori’s strike for Debrecen and Ferencvaros.
