Newcastle United secured their first victory under Steve Bruce with a surprise victory against Tottenham Hotspur in North London on Sunday evening.

Joelinton, big money signing, landed the decisive blow after 20 minutes when the cross of substitute Christian Atsu’s found him at the goal box, before controlling and placing the ball past Hugo Lloris.

Tottenham brought their A-game but couldn’t find the net. Effort from their players like Heung-Min Son, Danny Rose and Harry Kane at various time in the eighteen yard box raised an alarm for penalty which the referee overlooked.

However, Newcastle defended throughout with determination and maintained their focus in winning the game. Spurs where out of it after the final whistle, despite giving their all to draw the game. But the game ended 1-0, with Spurs losing at home.

This victory sees Steve Bruce off on a promising start as Newcastle boss while also subjecting Spurs to their first defeat of the season in the same breath.
