UEFA Champions League results: Liverpool, Chelsea lose as Ajax ease past Lille

Liverpool lost their first match as defending champion of the UEFA Champion League against Napoli.

Napoli scored their first goal through a well coveted penalty by Dries Mertens in the 82 minutes.

Fernando Llorente made it 2 in the 90th minute to secure a vital 3 points for the Italia side.

Fellow English side, Chelsea also lost by one goal to nil at home against Valencia.

Valencia took the lead in the 74th minute through their Spanish striker, Rodrigo.

Chelsea had a great opportunity to level score but Ross Barkley could not convert his penalty.

Inother results, Barcelona played a goalless draw against Borussia Dortmund. Inter Milan also a one all draw at home against Slavia Prague.

Last season’s semi-finalist. Ajax walloped Lille 3 goal to nil. Benfica lost 2 goal to 1 at home against RB Leipzig.

Australian side, Salzburg trashed Genk of Belgium 6 goals to 2 with teenage sensation Erling Braut Haland scoring a hat-trick.

Håland became the first teen to score a hat-trick on his Champions League debut since Wayne Rooney in 2004.
